The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization that provides patient safety ratings for hospitals, announced the results of its latest grading cycle and nine hospitals in Arizona earned “A” ratings, making them the safest hospitals in Arizona and among the safest in the nation.
Mayo Clinic in Arizona has consistently earned an A grade in every Leapfrog grading cycle since 2012 and is among just 11 hospitals nationwide to achieve this perfect score. Nearly 3,000 hospitals across the U.S. receive safety grades from Leapfrog during two grading periods per year.
The Leapfrog Group’s survey assesses the status of many hospital practice areas, including:
- Electronic medication ordering.
- Staffing of ICUs by critical care medical professionals.
- Structures and systems to provide a culture that supports safety.
- Practices to monitor and maintain safe nursing workforce levels.
- Monitoring proper hand hygiene techniques of staff who interact with patients.
- Monitoring the use of barcode scanning of patients and medications when administering medications in the hospital.
